Gendo Shugou, who has just retired from military service, finds himself in need of a large sum of money due to family circumstances. He decides to join a virtual game called “Melo World” where he can earn money. In Melo World, Shugou meets popular streamer Himekawa Ayana and wealthy Morioka Hikaru, forming a party with them. As the three progress smoothly through the game, they gradually begin to feel suspicious about it. While investigating to uncover the truth behind the game, they discover a shocking fact. The post-apocalyptic, desolate world of Melo World is actually the future of the real world, and the god controlling the game has been guiding humanity towards this future. Can they join forces with their companions to defeat the god and restore the world to its original state?
